2007 Beach Cleaning
Members of the Dubuque Phlockers donated 15 man-hours toward the cleaning of a local beach located on the banks of the Mississippi River and had a tremendously phun time while doing it!
On Saturday, September 22, six members of the club convened at Massey Marina bar, traveled by boat to the beach while listening to ballads of Buffett. In other words, it was the Dubuque continuation of the "Boats, Beaches, Bars and Ballads" tour.
The group collectively removed over 150 pounds of litter and other debris from "9-Mile Island Beach" while at the same time, staved off hoardes mosquitoes the size of Beetles (VW Beetles, that is).

The best part of the day was the satisfaction that came with the "Thank You's" offered by the casual beach-goers who were also out enjoying the day. The second best part of the day was relaxing afterward with some cold beverages on another local beach that is expected to be "swept" next year.
In addition to the local environmental and social impacts of our efforts, we realized there is nothing like being outside on a beautiful summer day (our last full day of summer this year) with good friends while "partying with a purpose."
The Dubuque Phlockers would like to thank Ron Markus, Barb Markus, Jeff Sanderfield, Chris Sanderfield, Ladd Nelson and a special thank you to 6-year old "parrotkeet" Lindsay Nelson for all of their efforts!
