2007 Pet-o-ween Benefit for the Dubuque Humane Society

On Saturday, October 27 and Sunday October 28, 2007, members of the Dubuque Phlockers volunteered 41 parrothead-hours of service as judges at two pet-costume contests culminating on October 28 as the Dubuque Phlockers presented checks totalling $700 to the Dubuque Humane Society during a live-remote broadcast through local radio station KGRR.

On Saturday, October 27, four members of the club served as judges during the PetCo Howl-o-ween costume contest. Pets of all brands were sashayed down the cat-walk (dog-walk, bunny-walk, etc) to the delight of the crowd.

The Dubuque Phlockers would like to thank judges Nicole McWilliams, Rob McWilliams, Bill Steppan, and a special thank you to parrotkeet Lindsay Nelson along with Ron Markus, Barb Markus, Ladd Nelson, Nancy Nelson and parrotkeet Brandon Nelson for showing their support!

Then, on Sunday, October 28, 16 members of the Dubuque Phlockers gathered to participate for our second year at the annual "Pet-o-ween" costume contest to benefit the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. Eight members of the phlock served as judges for this popular Dubuque event.

Getting Ready to Start the Judging

The costumes were diverse and very creative. It wasn't difficult to imagine this one singing "Yes, I am a pirate 28.57 doggie-years too late..."

A pirate (28.57 doggie-years too late)...

By the time all was said and done, more than 60 pets had walked by the judges panel. Then, the difficult work began. Who should bring home the top prize?

Discussing Each of the Entries

The efforts of the Dubuque Phlockers in conjunction with host and sponsor Theisen's resulted in a record-breaking fund-raising amount for the annual Pet-o-Ween event! An additional (and estimated) $250 worth of needed supplies raised through our recent Phlock Through the Lock party were also contributed to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society.

In the end, this crowd favorite took the top honors. However, the real winner was ultimately the Dubuque Regional Humane Society!
