2007 Phlock Through the Lock

Members of the Dubuque Phlockers showed their finest "we-can-help spirit" by volunteering 10 hours and raising $592 in two separate events in early October, 2007, to benefit the Dubuque Regional Humane Society.

On Saturday, October 6, five members of the club served as judges for the Dubuque Regional Humane Society Bark 'n' Howl costume contest. Although the pooches in the contest developed their own plans, the children in attendance were all eager to get their costumes in working order prior the forthcoming Halloween holiday and allowed them to get a little extra "bang for their costume buck."

The Dubuque Phlockers would like to thank Bob Noel, Gina Noel, Nancy Ronek, and a special thank you to "parrotkeets" Quinn Ronek and Max Ronek for all of their efforts!

Then, on Sunday, October 7, the Dubuque Phlockers hosted a fund- and supply-raising Phlock Through the Lock "party with a purpose" to benefit the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. It was another one of those picture perfect days in Dubuque and everyone was smilin' when we raised nearly $600 for the DRHS.

Talk About Boat Drinks

Both the young and the "young at heart" gathered together for a 3-hour cruise that featured complimentary beverages and an "all you can eat" pizza buffet, live music from Dubuque's Pirate Over 50, a silent auction and door prizes.

Parrotkeets Enjoying the Day

Parrotheads from Dubuque, Rockford, the Quad Cities (Moline), and Cedar Rapids came together in "phine phashion" and literally donated a "truck-load" (or should that be a "boat-load?") of supplies needed by the Humane Society, including:

Part of Treasure We Collected
  • 50 pounds of canned food
  • 10 pounds of boxed food
  • 60 pounds of newspaper
  • 10 gallons of bleach
  • 1 Locking Safe (not pictured)
  • a large assortment of pet toys, cleaning and office supplies

"The Weather Is Here..." was about the best way to sum up the temperatures and sights of the day. It truly was a beautiful day to get out and enjoy the splendors offered by an autumn day along the bluffs of the Mississippi River.

The Dubuque Phlockers would like to thank Ron Markus, Barb Markus, Al Ronek, Kirchhoff Distributing, and the staff of the American Lady Yacht Cruises for turning a "picture perfect" day into a "picture perfect party with a purpose!"
