Meeting Minutes – August 8, 2006

New Business

  1. Discussed our non-profit and tax exempt status. Tax exempt status looks like it may cost upwards of $3000.00. Therefore, we will probably only be looking at the non-profit status for our club at this time. Gina Noel will talk with her father (who is a CPA) about this matter.
  2. Also discussed the matter of donations by individuals to our club. Will this be tax deductible? Gina will also discuss this with her father.
  3. Make-A-Wish Foundation (MAWF) - Ladd talked with them during one of their meetings at the Finley Hospital. They currently have five kids in the Dubuque area for us to raise money for. We can choose one child or donate for all of the children. Discussed the fact that we need to get in touch with the Des Moines rep for MAWF in order to get permission to use their name/logo during fund raising activities. Bob Noel will take care of this.
  4. Discussed the Feb 10th, 2007 Gala that the MAWF is holding at the Grand River Center. It is $60.00 per person to attend.
  5. Discussed that the MAWF wants to do a presentation to our club explaining their organization. Kirchhoff Distributing possibly has a room available for us to use for this type of thing.
  6. Discussed expanding our membership by using “Dubuque365” or “AccessDubuque.com.”
  7. Discussed having a social event at the Yardarm in conjunction with radio Margaritaville and a Buffett concert on Sept 14th.
  8. Motion by Ladd – second by Bob - To follow through with the previous discussion. Jeff Sanderfield will talk with Keith at the Yardarm about this. Motion passed 5-0 “Arrr”. Note: This has been cancelled due to the Yardarm being closed by that date on weeknights.
  9. Discussion of holding the business meeting and having the social hour on different nights. It was decided to do separate meetings/activities.
  10. Discussed our new checking account. We decided to require 2 signatures on a check for any amount over $50.00 and anything over $1000.00 needed the unanimous approval by the board.
  11. Discussed the use of the Alpine venue bar areas with the Cedar Rapids club. These can be rented for use prior to and during a Buffett concert. It was felt that this was something that we should look further into.
  12. Discussed with Mark and Brenda Zimmerman (possible new members attending tonight) the idea behind the Parrot Head club and what we are about. Mark and Brenda said to consider them members and “Where do we pay our club membership dues?”

  13. Discussed the idea of coming up with a club logo to use on t-shirts, graphics, etc. Mark Zimmerman volunteered to start working on a club logo. Thanks Mark.
  14. Discussed possibly doing the Dragon Boat Races next year with a boat with a fin on it.
  15. Motion by Ladd to adjourn – second by Jeff. Motion passed 5-0 “Arrr”.
