Meeting Minutes - August 28, 2008

Denny's Lux Club

Meeting called to order at 6:40pm

In Attendance

Ron Markus, Barb Markus, Laura Schauer, Kim Maiers, Ladd Nelson, Bob Noel, Randy Forsyth, Jason Bries, Janet Bries, Jody Bradley, Ron Craft, Ellen Craft, Al Ronek.

Old Business

  1. Ron Markus made a motion to accept the minutes from the July meeting. Jodie Bradley seconded.
  2. Make a Wish Foundation check presentation. Discussion of date and possible publicity from Telegraph Herald. Jody Bradley is to check with TH for availability and dates.
  3. 501c3 and 501c7 discussion on which on is better suited for the club and which to actively pursue. Ladd Nelson will research further and topic tabled until more information is available.
  4. Workday at Camp Courageous in Monticello. September 13th is the date. Adults and children are invited to help. Camp Courageous will provide all tools and supplies, Phlockers will provide the labor. Ron will contact Camp Courageous to determine a start time and number of hours needed. Camping at Walnut Acres Friday night through Sunday is available with a Luau Party Friday night and a potluck dinner on Saturday night. More details to be coming. Ron made a motion to accept Sept 13 as the date for the cleanup. Ladd seconded. Motion carries.

New Business

  1. Charities for 2009 were discussed. Albrecht Acres was mentioned. It was decided to continue with the current two charities, Dubuque Humane Society and Make a Wish.
  2. Discussion on what activities to do in the Fall. Ann Lorenz discussed some of the things the Humane Society has coming up. Dog O'ween at Theisen's, Ann will get us the date.
  3. A river cruise similar to the Phlock through the Lock last year is being planned. Details to be determined.
  4. Camp Albrecht Acres Golf outing on Sept 11, they are looking for volunteers to help serve dinner and clean up. An email will be sent out to generate interest.
  5. Des Moines PHC Livingston Saturday night Sept 20th in Altoona.
  6. Chili Cook-off is scheduled for October 4th. Discussion on having a booth and cooking chili but a lot of work/equipment is needed just to meet the City health code.
  7. Gunther's Bar is having a Golf Outing on September 20, 4 man best shot, 9 hole. Pork Chop feed afterward. Al Ronek slated to play afterwards.
  8. Beach Clean-up. Jeff to let us know when the group from Schumacher's Island is going to clean up their beach and we will tag along with them.
  9. Omaha PHC 2nd Annual Cruise, Boats, Beaches and Bars. Ron has more information if anyone is interested.

Treasurer Report

Barb received the checkbook today (8/28/08) and will have a report next month.

Social Director Update

September social meeting to be either at Timberline to coincide with the Golf Outing for Albrecht Acres on September 11th or at Trackside in Peosta in hopes to get members from the west side to attend.

Membership Director Update

Technology Director Update

  1. Ladd has lots of ideas of updating the web page and making it friendlier and easier to use.
  2. Providing access to the calendar for members to add events, information and their own photos. Jody Bradley will send Ladd her photos of members and events that she has.

Vice President Report

  1. T-shirts and sweatshirt order. If anyone wants a sweatshirt, tank top or t-shirts with the new logo, please let Randy know so he can get an order together and get it in to the guy all at once rather than paying a set-up charge each time someone wants something.
  2. Restocking the mini-mart. How much stock do we want to carry and what items do we want to continue/discontinue.
