Creating Dubuque Phlockers Minutes

NOTE: This article illustrates one procedure for creating HTML meeting minute notes using FrontPage Express. In reality, any decent HTML editor can accomplish the same task.

Get a Template and Open it with FrontPage Express

  1. (Optional) If you don't already have the template file, right-click this link and choose Save Target As. Save the "PhlockerMinutes.htm" file to your suggested "My Documents" folder.
  2. Start FrontPage Express by double-clicking on the Desktop Shortcut as illustrated below.
FrontPage Shortcut
  1. From the File menu, choose Open.
File - Open
  1. Choose the From Location option and indicate http://www.dbqphlockers.org/minutes/PhlockerMinutes.htm and click OK.
Open File
  1. Alternatively, you could choose the "From File" option if you saved a copy of the file to your computer using Step 1 above.

Begin Editing for New Content

  1. Fill in the content areas surrounded in [brackets].
Begin Editing

NOTE: The template/meeting notes document makes general use of five distinct "styles":

  • Heading 1 (or H1) - Document Title and Date
  • Heading 2 (or H2) - Attendees, Old Business Heading, New Business Heading
  • Numbered List - Old Business Items, New Business Items
  • Bulleted List (Indented) - Old Business Discussion Points, New Business Discussion Points
  • Normal - Everything else

Make use of the "Format Toolbar" (particularly the Numbered List, Bulleted List, Outdent and Indent icons on the right):

A sample document with the typical styles is shown below.

NOTE: When creating/editing an HTML or other web-friendly document, DO NOT try to adjust the layout of the material with things like "tabs" and "extra spaces." These items are ignored by web browsers and special formatting is beyond the scope of this document.

Save and Send the Minutes

Once your editing is complete, your file should resemble the structural layout of the sample shown below:

Sample File
  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.
Save As
  1. Click on the As File... button.
As File
  1. Browse to your desired folder location (e.g. My Documents) and indicate a file-name convention of YYYY-MM-DD.htm as shown in the sample below.
Saved File

NOTE: Alternatively, you could also try sending the file directly using File → Send... and specifying the appropriate Email recipient(s).
